Making A House A Home....

Making a house a home...Is so simple and easy to do...I have a lot of experience with this because I have changed my own house (not to mention my decorating business) about a million and one times....The first thing is to add character...Buy things that you love and are attracted to ( go over to Cherry Hill Cottage on my blog roll and check her lovely home)...Don't question yourself...Buy the things you love and let your home evolve into a place where you can go and feel it is all you and your family, of course...We can't leave them out...Even though, it would make the whole evolving thing smoother...I have three boys...I can't have pink and seafoam green everywhere...It's not pretty seeing a bunch of boys laying on sassy girly pillows and such...If you can handle that you are more of a woman than me! I want my home to speak to the whole family....I'd start in the kitchen or living space.....Check out all your discount stores, consignment stores, ebay and of course, Screaming Meme's! A shameless plug, I know....A quick note....I reduced prices on my Etsy Shop....Mosey on over, Partner and take a gander at my little shop and of course, I added a few items yesterday on a {Paris Flea Market} @ Screaming Meme's post....Fine pieces of junk, if don't say so myself! So giddy up, Cowgirls or boys.....And trot on over....If you  If you like something on Etsy or my recent {Paris Flea Market} @ Screaming Meme's and need a layaway or want to make a offer...Don't be shy, I'm friendly and only bite on occassion...:) Love to you~ Meme.......

P.S. Thank you from the bottom of my little heart....All the kind words about my nest and my decorating style...It means the world to me....I love doing this blog and sharing all my decorating ideas and how I am learning to decorate my own life...As women it is hard to do anything that is for ourselves and I am taking steps to do that...One of which was to start this blog...Even though I didn't know what a blog was...I'm getting better with every blog.....I appreciate everyone who stops in and visits my blog...I know that there are millions of wonderful blogs and for you to take time to come to my little corner of the earth is the biggest compliment .....Thank you!.... Love to each and everyone~ Meme

My Mother's day Present.....A Crock Pot.....

....I've been eye balling this (what kind of word is eye balling anyway? And where in the heck did the word come from...It's kinda strange when you say it...eyeballing...heehee...When I say it I see eyeballs falling out...like the trick glasses you wear with the springs....I've got such a wild imagination, huh?) I loved it from the moment I saw it...It was red and sassy and it screams "Meme!"....I love the scalloped and beaded detail...I can use it for one pot meals, salads and serving...I've used it three times this week and boy did I love it! It gave me time...Time! I had time! I watered my flowers and sat on the sofa and talked with my boys....I loved it! And my house smelled so wonderful! I think it would be wonderful to have 3 or 4 of these babies! I could just walk away....and take back a little of my time....to enjoy my surroundings.....Crock pots...you've got to love them!

I found a great piece of Lennox China....Oh yeah, LENOX! Love that.....Great for Gravy, Creamer, or syrup...Or of course, for crazy Decorating Divas....Decorating with it....Add fresh flowers or start a collection....There's something special about grouping like items for show....(The scrolling is in a antique white to contrast with the white....It is so much more beautiful in person....)I'm one to use my pretty things as decor and the everyday...I just simply pull that baby of the shelf...Wash it up and use it for serving....Whoever wants this mint condition Lenox dish comment me with your zip code....I'll email you shipping and insurance costs....Lenox dish is approx. 6 1/2 inches tall and 7 inches wide....Lenox dish is $15.00...I know...You don't have to tell me! My Nest....

....Love....Young love, at that....It's a beautiful thing...Life has moved so fast and my baby isn't a baby anymore....I have cried more in the last few months than I think I've cried in a lifetime...These emotions are so bitter sweet...I'm so grateful for a strong, handsome, healthy and smart son....but the thought of him flying the nest breaks my heart....I want to rejoice and celebrate his life and his future...but the Mama in me gets all teary eyed and scared....I remember when I flew the nest and how I wanted everyone to be happy and treat me like an adult...but now the shoe is on the other foot and I'm the one being left behind....I feel like I have to protect him from everything or he can't survive...But he is showing me that he can.....slowly everyday..... Here are some "Life Rules"...from Bill Gates....I think it's strong in his message and very wise....( I like Rule #7 (:....)

RULE 1:
Life is not fair -- get used to it.
bullet RULE 2:
The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to
accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
bullet RULE 3:
You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school.
bullet RULE 4:
If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. She/He doesn't
have tenure.
bullet RULE 5:
Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a
different word for burger flipping -- they called it opportunity.
bullet RULE 6:
If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your
mistakes, learn from them.
bullet RULE 7:
Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They
got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
bullet RULE 8:
Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In
some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
bullet RULE 9:
Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few
employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.
bullet RULE 10:
Television is NOT real life! In real life people actually have to leave the
coffee shop and go to jobs.
bullet RULE 11:
Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

A poem.... When You Thought I Wasn't Looking......... When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I wanted to paint another one. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I knew that little things are special things. When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you say a prayer, and I believed there is a God I could always talk to. When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt you kiss me goodnight, and I felt loved. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared and I wanted to be everything that I could be. When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked... and wanted to say thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking. --- Anonymous

Ask Meme Mondays.....

Staging_2 Six Q's to ask before you start to decorate.....

  • What is the function of the room?  By fiquring out how the room is going to be used will help you be able to fiqure out what furniture is needed...The obvious, in the bedroom you will need a bed, table or nightstand...but is there room for a dresser, an entertainment area, or exercise area? How do you want to use this space when you are in there? Do you want a TV? Or a little table and chair set so that you can eat breakfast or have a romantic evening in? With the way prices are going now a days...making your house a retreat is growing more and more popular.....When planning your space your need to measure your area...Keep a journal and write down all the measurements and ideas you have....Take a camera (and measuring tape) with you so that you may get pictures of all the things you see that might work or at least give you inspiration....You can go to Walgreens.com to print them out for your journal....Glue the pictures to the journal.....
  • How often do you plan to use this room? The answer to this question will help determine budget and color...You may be able to use a bolder color and less furniture...to save money...Honey!
  • How much light does the room get? This is very important....It will help you determine the color....the darker the room, the lighter you may want to go with paint color ( you can still make the color warm but don't make it too dark) and also determine the window treatments....We don't want to go too dark on the treatments, we want as much light as we can get in there....And if you have a room that gets a lot of sunlight you may want to pick a cooler color palette and insulated drapes or light-controlling shutters.
  • What is your favorite outdoor location or vacation spot? Like the mountains, beach or a B&B...For example, you may like the beach, you could paint the walls sky blue, buy textured furniture, add a sandy colored sisal rug, along with shells and beach decor.....
  • How can I arrange the furniture so that it looks best? Find the room's focal point and use it to center your arrangement. Don't block natural pathways into and through a room, palce the largest pieces first, mid-size next and smallest last. Include table and lighting next to seating pieces. Aim to balance large pieces like a sofa or a fireplace with similiar sized things in the opposite location (which sometimes can't be done, I know...). Think of the area rug as an island within the room and use it as a foundation for your seating arrangement. Try keeping the seating arrangement in a square that is 8 to 14 feet across.
  • What is your favorite color and how can I use it in the room? If the color wouldn't look good as wall color, try using it through rugs, accessories (like a throw, knack nacks, on a lamp shade etc). Remember that the back ground colors are just that "back ground" and the accent colors are the focal point of the room...So, choose paint colors wisely! :)

Daisy Cottage....

Okay... I love Daisy Cottage....Her style is so fun and laid back....Here is a quote I read on her blog....it touched me...."Isn't it wonderful when we can see the beauty in the less than perfect things that surround us and even in the shabby, old, and discarded? We ARE lucky, aren't we? I think so"...From Kim @ http://deardaisycottage.typepad.com/

I got high.....

I got high....on a garage sale find, that is ...I found this rusty old cart at a garage sale for only $2.00....:) I painted it and now it's ready to hold flowers... Garage sales are so fun because you never know what you'll find...It's a high like no other.....I remember every spring/summer I went garage saling with my Grandparents in our stationwagon....We even had a bumper sticker that said...."Caution....We stop for Garage Sales"....I wasn't the least bit embarrassed...I loved it....It was so much fun and we made the day of it....We'd stop at the old gas station and get a Cream Soda or a Root Beer...and we'd drive...It seemed a million miles...but I'm sure it was only the next town over....I got a dollar...and I would be so careful with that dollar....I wouldn't spend it unless my heart skipped a beat...Til this day I am the same way....I will not buy anything that doesn't move me and make me feel that high....I even have to have a back up plan for the item just in case it doesn't work...A friend, a neighbor, a family member...It's the lessons I learned from my Grandparents... What have you found lately? I want to let you all know that I marked down some of the items in my Etsy shop.....I usually do that on Fridays...but I was in Austin, Texas! I love that city......Meg from http://menopausethrumargaritaville.blogspot.com/ lives in the Hill Country...I hope one day to meet up! Anyway, go check my Etsy Shop out! Love to you, Meme

This Is Our Shed.....Emily's Cottage

...When we purchased the house, I fell in love with this shed...I had high hopes of making it mine...a place to rest and pot flowers.....I had it all designed in my head...I even named it "Emily Cottage" after my niece....But with storage problems...It quickly became a plain ol' shed...Lawn movers and garden tools.....I hope to one day take it back and make it something "Screaming Memeish"....I want to add flowers to the front...but the area doesn't drain as good as it should...So, I thought some sweet window boxes and a wreathe would be good enough....I plan on painting the trim a more sage~y color..The Hunter Green was on the house and shed when we purchased it....The previous owners built this shed...not to mention a huge back porch and a lot of little touches through the house...They were amazing!
